Free Grounds Management Courses

Hampshire Cricket Board has the pleasure of inviting you to several, short sessions to support clubs with various aspects of cricket pitch maintenance over the course of the season. These sessions will be hosted by Phil Jeggo, our regional representative of the Grounds Management Association and formerly Head Groundsperson at Essex County Cricket Club.

They have three courses on offer, with each one lasting two hours. Details of the course are below and to register, please use the following link:

These courses are free of charge to attend, but spaces are limited to 20 places per event.

Match Pitch preparation, including marking out:

Sparsholt CC: 11th May - 2pm to 4pm

  • Pitch preparation considerations
  • Mower type and cutting heights
  • Wetting and Drying a pitch
  • Brushing, raking, mowing
  • Rolling
  • Marking out the pitch

Match Pitch repairs, including foot hole repair:

Hartley Wintney CC: 5th July - 2pm to 4pm

  • Cleaning the pitch up
  • Materials/equipment required
  • Preparing a seedbed for the pitch
  • Applying Loam, seed, Fertiliser, levelling
  • Post repair care
  • Repairing a foot hole to re-use a pitch and during longer games

Post season renovation and Winter maintenance:

Totton and Eling CC: 6th September - 2pm to 4pm

  • Preparing Square for renovation, Materials/machinery required
  • Thatch removal, Scarification
  • Preparing a seed bed
  • Applying Loam, seed, Fertiliser
  • Winter Maintenance
  • Mowing (topping)
  • Drag Brushing
  • Surveillance for Weeds, Pests, Diseases
